Install ucli
One command builds ucli at its pinned commit and puts it in ~/.local/bin. A new install never asks for sudo.
Install
curl -fsSL https://install.ucli.tools/install.sh | bash
Linux and macOS; on Windows, use WSL. You need curl, git, make and bash. ucli is a bash script, so install bash first if you lack it. If ucli is already in /usr/local/bin, it is updated there, which may ask for your password; ucli install --move moves it to ~/.local/bin.
What the installer does
- Checks that curl, git, make and bash are installed, and says what to install if not.
- Reads the commit the registry pins for ucli, and fetches exactly that commit from github.com/ucli-tools/ucli.
- Builds it and puts
ucliin~/.local/bin. A new install never asks for sudo; an existing/usr/local/bin/ucliis updated where it is, which may ask for your password. - Tells you if
~/.local/binis missing from yourPATH, and how to add it for bash, zsh or fish.
Read it before you run it
Download it, read it, check it, then run it:
curl -fsSLO https://install.ucli.tools/install.sh curl -fsSLO https://install.ucli.tools/install.sh.sha256 less install.sh sha256sum -c install.sh.sha256 # macOS: shasum -a 256 -c install.sh.sha256 bash install.sh
The check catches a download cut short; it does not protect against a compromised server.
Check that it worked
Open a new terminal and ask ucli for its version. Then build your first tool.
ucli --version ucli build mdtexpdf
To remove ucli later, run ucli uninstall.
